How to Plant a Potted Tree from Olivia's Orchard

1. Keep your tree out of direct sunlight & water it well. You can do this by soaking the pot in a container holding a few inches of water for about an hour.

2. Dig a hole about the shape and size of the pot the tree is in.
You can check by placing the pot in the hole to make sure it’s the right size.

3. Slide the tree out of the pot, doing your best not to break up any of the soil or touch the roots.

4. Place the tree in the hole and fill dirt in around the soil cube. The tree should be at the same depth it was in the pot. In other words, the soil of the ground should come up to the same place on the tree's stem/trunk as the soil of the pot did. Pour 1-2 quarts of water around your tree to settle the soil in. You may need to add more dirt around the tree after the soil has settled.

5. Install a stake and tree tube if you’re using them. I always recommend mulching around your tree tube with coarse wood chips 3 inches deep, in a 3-foot diameter circle. This retains moisture and stops raccoons and other animals from digging up your new tree. Make a label for your tree, or write directly on the tree tube.
